V. COVID-19 Relief Funds Budget
Mr. Alvin Garrison, Superintendent
Rationale

Like districts across the nation, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the schooling of pre K-12 children in Covington Independent Public Schools. With so many unknowns, the district has grappled with what it would take to have in-person schooling in the fall. With the allocation of COVID-relief funds from the government, we have an opportunity to address some of our existing gaps as well as purchase equipment and materials to keep our schools safe for all.

It is a given that we want to provide a sound, quality education for our Covington children, while at the same time protecting our students, teachers, administrators and staff. In addition, the district has to take into consideration national, state and regional guidelines and/or recommendations. After several rounds of discussions, district administration established a simple guiding principle – How do we continue learning? to help us establish spending priorities. Please note, that this is only a start, but with this guiding principle at the forefront, the district has established spending priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic that includes CARES Funds and KETS Funds.

VI. Adjournment
