IV. Election of Board Chair for 2020
Rationale

The Superintendent shall conduct the election of chairman. The Superintendent shall call for nominations and seconds for the office of chairman, and the member receiving the majority vote of the members present at a roll call vote shall be declared the chairman. The Board member so elected shall assume the chair immediately upon his/her election. The chairman shall serve one (1) year terms beginning immediately following their election.

V. Election of Board Vice-Chair for 2020
Rationale

Following the election of the chairman, s/he shall call for nominations and seconds for the office of vice-chairman, and the member receiving a majority vote of the members present at a roll call vote shall be declared the vice-chairman. The vice-chairman shall serve one (1) year terms beginning immediately following their election.

VI. Appoint Board Secretary
Rationale

The Board Chair will call for a motion to approve Mr. Garrison being appointed as Board Secretary.  
 

VII. Appoint Board Treasurer
Rationale

The Board Chair will call for a motion to approve Ms. Annette Burtschy being appointed as Board Treasurer.

VIII. Appoint Board Attorney
Rationale

Adams, Stepner, Woltermann, & Dusing, PLLC provides unique professional legal services arising out of specialized knowledge and skill involving mental and intellectual knowledge, analysis, and experience.   As such, this is a professional services contract that is exempt under the Kentucky Model Procurement Code.

Mary Ann Stewart, Esq. of Adams, Stepner, Woltermann, & Dusing will continue to provide general counsel services to the Covington Independent Public School Board.  She along with the other attorneys in that Firm are valued team players for the District.  Their expertise and efficient assistance in the complexities of school law and other legal areas continues to be an invaluable, essential, and reliable asset to the operation of the School District.

The Law Firm shall continue to bill all services rendered for general counsel purposes, including litigation and litigation support, risk management, etc., at the reduced rate of $175.00 per hour.  This rate recognizes that the School District is a governmental entity with limited resources.  All attorney time spent preparing for and attending Board meetings, including, ARC meetings shall be billed at a further reduced rate of $165.00 per hour.

IX. 2020 Board Member Committee Selections
Rationale

Selections for will be open to serve on the following committees for the 2020 school year:

  • Budget Committee
  • Covington Education Foundation Committee
  • TEAM Foundation Committee
  • Calendar Committee
  • Student Code of Conduct


X. 2020 CIPS Board of Education Meeting Schedule
Rationale

Attached is the draft schedule for the 2020 Covington Independent Public Schools Board Meeting Schedule. First meetings of the month will be held at various schools within the District at 6 p.m. The second meetings of the month will be held at the Covington Board of Education at 5 p.m.

XI. CIPS Board of Education Travel FY2020
Rationale

Pursuant to CIPS Policy 01.821 Board Member Expense Reimbursement, it is necessary to obtain Board approval of all out-of-district travel by CIPS Board Members for 2020.  All Board travel will qualify for Kentucky School Board Association yearly professional development hours.
