Actions Taken

Motion Passed:  The council reviewed 13.02 Instructional Practices Policy and made the following revisions: Took out the P1 teachers will use Saxon Phonics on an as needed basis. P1, P2, and P3 Classrooms will incorporate Daily 5 into their literacy practices and will use 5 Components of Effective Reading Instruction: Vocabulary, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Comprehension, and Fluency instead of the Cafe Framework. The Go Math Series has been changed to The Envision Math series will be used by all grade levels with a focus on common vocabulary and strategies. P2 Teachers are going to discuss in PLC if they are using calendar math. All PLC groups will discuss if making real-life connections is a best teaching practice that occurs daily at RPS and if it is necessary to be in policy. passed with a motion by Mrs. Erica Miller and a second by Amber Conley and the consensus of the council.

Motion Passed:  The council reviewed 13.02 Weekly Instructional Practices Policy and made the following revisions: At least one of the nine Marzano's Techniques will be used weekly has been taken out of policy. The council has stated that with research based instructional practices and deeper learning techniques being incorporated into instruction, encompasses Marzano techniques. passed with a motion by Mrs. Katie Sammons and a second by Mrs. Erica Miller and the consensus of the council.

7.d. 13.02 Nine Week Instructional Practices Policy
Actions Taken

Motion Passed:  The council reviewed 13.02 Nine Week Instructional Practices Policy and made the following revisions: Multiple Intelligence Strategies were removed and the first bullet in this policy will now read: All teachers will use integrated units and technology will be incorporated into learning activities. passed with a motion by Amber Conley and a second by Mrs. Katie Sammons and the consensus of the council.

7.e. 13.02 Annual and On-Going Activities and Instruction Instructional Practices Policy

Motion Passed:  The council reviewed 13.02 Annual and On-Going Activities and Instruction Instructional Practices Policy remained the same. PLC groups will discuss and as they learn and incorporate phonemic awareness and phonics assessments in the classroom, these may be added to this policy at some point during the 2023-2024 school year. passed with a motion by Amber Conley and a second by Mrs. Lynda Downs and the consensus of the council.
