August Regular SBDM Meeting
1. Roll Call
2. Review of Mission and Vision Statement
Discussion

Mission and vision were discussed. 

2.1. Mission- Making children Ready for a Changing World
2.2. Vision- Our vision is that every student will gain necessary knowledge and skills to succeed at their highest potential.
2.3. Beliefs- We believe all students can become lifelong learners, thinkers, and productive contributors to our society. It is our responsibility to ensure all students have the opportunity to learn at a high level in a safe and secure learning environment.
3. Approval of Agenda
Actions Taken

Motion Passed:  Motion to accept the agenda passed with a motion by Marlene Hamilton and a second by Mrs. Teresa Combs and the consensus of the council.

4. Approval of Minutes
Actions Taken

Motion Passed:  Motion to approve the previous meeting's minutes passed with a motion by Mrs. Teresa Combs and a second by Mary Kay Caudill and the consensus of the council.

5. Financial Report
Discussion

The council was shown a copy of the budget as it is at this time and reviewed it together.


Mr. Fugate discussed ordering rugs for the entrances and front office and a media spotlight with our brand.


He also discussed that on the report it is showing %500 for paint from Ace Hardware but that would be be coming back to the school because it was not needed anymore.


He reminded the council of the 5 active boards that was purchased for classrooms and when these funds were removed, the remaining balance should be around $7000-$8000.

6. New Business

6.1. Virtual Learning
Discussion

The council discussed that Virtual Learning with the students would begin on September 8th.  It was discussed that this would be very different than the NTI days at the end of the year. Each teacher will have a schedule and the students will log onto their devices and participate in live classes each day for instruction.


Mr. Fugate explained that August 25th and September 1st would be scrimmage days.  These days would allow the students to log onto their classes with their teachers to see how things will work when school begins.  


The council discussed possible ways to conduct a virtual open house.

6.2. Student placement
Actions Taken

Motion Passed:  The motion to allow class size to go 4 over cap was passed with a motion by Mrs. Teresa Combs and a second by Marlene Hamilton and the consensus of the council.

Discussion

Students are currently being placed into classrooms for the 2019-2020 school year.  As things are at this time, there will not need to be any split grades. However, in order for this to happen the council discussed making the motion to go cap size for each grade by 4 students.

6.3. Discuss Reading A to Z
Discussion

Mr. Fugate explained that he was planning on talking with each teacher about interest in using Reading A to Z. If teachers are wanting to use this program, he stated the school would do a purchase order to purchase.

6.4. Discuss Studies Weekly
Actions Taken

Motion Passed:  The motion to purchase Studies Weekly for all classroom teachers was passed with a motion by Mrs. Teresa Combs and a second by Tammy Keene and the consensus of the council.

Discussion

The council discussed using Studies Weekly with the students for social studies.  It was explained that the Studies Weekly has more up to date information and higher interest material for the students.  The council made the motion to purchase these supplementaries for each grade level teacher.

7. Student and Faculty Handbooks
Discussion

Mr. Fugate explained that Vanessa Baker was still working on completing these but they would be complete by the time school started.

8. Review 2020-2021 Comprehensive School Improvement Plan
Discussion

Mr. Fugate explained at this time we do have an update for the CSIP due to school being out due to COVID-19.


Mr. Fugate explained that he planned on talking with Stacey Davidson for guidance during virtual learning with the CSIP.  

9. Academic Report
Discussion

The council discussed that MRC staff has been participating in PD days/work days to prepare for virtual learning.


Also, the teachers will be participating in a book study over Clarity and Teaching over the course of several months for PD purposes.

Mr. Fugate explained to the council that the Board of Education purchased headsets for each individual teacher to use during virtual teaching.


The council discussed possible ways of promoting students during the virtual learning and when/if school resumes.


The council discussed possibly finding a keyboarding class for the students to participate in.


The council discussed having writing folders for the students to be able to travel with them each year, ways that would be the most efficient way to do this (google classroom/paper).
