Discussion

Ms. Pat Hall, Board Chair:

All Board Members are registered for the KSBA Fall Regional Meeting as well as the bonus session at 4:30 p.m. prior to the meeting. If it’s ok with the Board, I’m going to pick one of the bonus sessions offered because of the three offered, one of them is going to be covered in the meeting so we don’t want to repeat it.

If in December we are able to make it, there will be lots of Charter School hours offered at that KSBA conference.

Mr. Kirby Smith, Superintendent:

Enrollment continues to increase at CES. CES was allocated for 534 students and right now they have 570 enrolled – 36 more than allocated, therefore we have posted another teaching position.

With the retirement of Ms. Sue Crabtree on August 31st.  Ms. Courtney Sowell has been hired as her replacement. Her first day of work was Tuesday September 5th.  Ms. Sowell was able to spend several days working with Ms. Sue before she retired.

We have finally been giving the green light to proceed with our 2nd District Facilities Planning team meeting. We are in the process of getting the second meeting scheduled. Mr. Kidwell, is the chairman and Ms. Elisha Rhodes is vice chair of this planning team.

Eunice Mitchell, a representative from BIG Picture schools corporate office in New Jersey spent two day, August 23rd and 24th working with CHS. The focus of the work was how to enhance and increase our internship program.

We have had two home football games thus far this season and I have had many compliments on the new ticket booth and entrance to the field. The addition to the pavilion has also been very useful with tailgating. Great venue and atmosphere for watching a football game.

I attended “Grandparents Day” at CES last Friday – what a crowd.  Ms. Rhodes said they had between 350-400 attend. Thanks to all grandparents that attended and to the staff at CES for opening up their school.

This past weekend was a GREAT weekend for the Eagles:

·         Football team won Friday night against Green Co.

·        Boys golf competed in the Class A State tournament – finished 9 out of 16 teams

·        Volleyball team made it to the semifinals of the Class A Regional tournament before losing to the eventual champions – Green County.

·        Our CMS 6th and 8th grade girls’ basketball team had wins this weekend over Taylor Co.

·        Our marching band sweep all divisions in Class A and placed 4th overall.

·        Elizabeth Sullivan won Taylor County DYW Saturday night. She was a scholastic winner, talent winner and interview!

·        Reagan Knight was second runner up and was also a scholastic winner.

·        Hayley Stapleton won the Be Your Best Self award.

At our last meeting Ms. Hall asked Mr. Kidwell and I to make a “wish list” of things needing to be completed in the District, so we did just that. Mr. Kidwell and I have surveyed each campus and have come up with some needs. He will share with you our “list” when it comes to discussing the working budget.

I am providing each of you with a copy of my calendar for August, September and October.
