Present were David Petett – Principal; Tyler Hardy – Teacher Representative; Ben Davis – Teacher Representative; Dale Estes – Teacher Representative; and Theresa Young – Parent Representative and provided the following update:

Ben Davis:

·         State scores were released in October. As a school we were right at state level in averages but in several categories we were above state averages.

·         ACT scores were 19.8 average which is above state average and highest in school history.

·         138 students enrolled in at least one AP course. 22 students passed at least one AP exam last year.

·         40 students attending area vocational classes.

·         Increased number of students completing internships.

·         Started Friday study sessions about a month ago for students who are behind or want to get ahead.

Tyler Hardy:

·         CHS Band were state qualifier, 3rd overall finish, and 3rd place in All A Division.

·         CHS Boys Golf were All A Region champs, All A State runner-up, KHSAA 5th Region runner-up, and state KHSAA 9th place finish.

·         CHS Girls Golf – Abbie Dicken was individual qualifier for the All A state championship.

·         CHS Soccer just finished with the winningest season in school history.

·         CHS Football – District champions and playing for Regional title this coming Friday.

Dale Estes:

·         Goals that have been set as a staff :

·         ACT – 20

·         Attendance – 95%

·         Graduation Rate – 100%

·         College and Career Readiness – 80% or above

·         AP Exams – 25 or more students pass this year

·         Extracurricular Activities – Get more students involved

David Petett:

·         If we can get the students here and get them involved in something they’re going to succeed. Ms. Cheryl Dicken hit me up about two weeks ago and asked if there was any way we could chart what are students are involved in and who is not involved in anything. I went to Mr. Dooley and asked for a document that showed every student at CHS, what activity they’re involved in or if they’re not involved. We want them to be a part of something that’s bigger than themselves so they can be accountable.

·         22 students last year passed an AP exam. If you go back 5 years ago, we had 5 students or less taking an AP course. That shows you a transformation the school has made. So now we’re talking about 25 or more students passing AP exams and 138 taking AP courses when 5 or six years ago we had 5 students taking an AP class.

Discussion

Ms. Pat Hall – Board Chair: If you are going to the Winter Symposium the first weekend in December, please let Ms. Hinton know tonight so that she can get you registered. I know the three of us have already confirmed that we will be going but if anyone else on the Board plans to attend, please let her know.

Also, November 27th we have a Work Session as part of our calendar. There will be official notice posted but we’re going to do things a little different. We’re actually going to have the Work Session in the back room at Colton’s Steakhouse, 6:00 p.m., because after the meeting, the Board will have our annual Christmas meal.

Mr. Smith and I were able to attend the first leadership dinner at Campbellsville Middle School. It was very nice and the Board always appreciates the invitations we receive to any types of those activities and we always do our best to make sure that at least one of us can be in attendance.

V.D. Superintendent Report
Discussion

Mr. Kirby Smith – Superintendent: On Wednesday October 18th Ms. Hall and I met with Dr. Carter, my executive coach and Jon Ballard my mentor. At times I wish I did not have to attend so many trainings, but I have really enjoyed the relationships I have developed with these two men.

The meeting with Senator Wise on October 20th went well. I appreciate Mr. Wise taking time to speak to our staff about the pension crisis.

I have completed site visits at CES and CMS with CHS scheduled soon. Our Principals are doing a great job of leading their schools.

I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Settle and our Non-tenure teacher leaders – Ms. Jones, Ms. Dicken and Ms. Campbell. We are in the process of making some changes for next year in order to better serve our non-tenure teachers. It is so important that we provide them the resources and opportunity to grow as educators.

Thursday November 9th we hosted a KCA night at CMS. Our three Principals and Mr. Settle managed this night. In October we allowed KCA to bring around 30-40 students to CMS to MAP test. In return, all I ask for was an opportunity to explain the scores to parents. The event was well attended and I will continue to look for ways to collaborate with KCA.

Our District hosted another wonderful Veterans Day program. After the program, the Veterans were treated to breakfast in the high school media center.

If you have not had the opportunity to attend a Friday morning assembly at CES, I urge you to do so.  You will not regret it. Lots of energy and the morning assembly is ran completely by students.

Facilities- Mr. McMahan and his crew have started on the ticket booth / concession stand / restrooms at the Durham campus. If you take a drive around the middle and high school campus, you will see new fence being installed.  The old fence has been taken down, the old post have been painted black and new black fence is being installed.  Looks great. I have had so many comments on how well it looks.

Tomorrow our District will be hosting an Independent School District legislative forum in the CHS media center. Representative Bam Carney ask us to host. At this time there will be somewhere between 25-30 Independent School Districts Superintendents attending.

Accomplishments around the District:

Our band finished the season placing 3rd out of 27 bands at the mid-state band competition in OH.

Our boy’s cross-country team had one member, Ian McAninch, qualify for the state meet.

The CMS 8th grade girls’ basketball team won the conference tournament.  First time in 20 years!

Our football team will travel this Friday to Crittenden County to play for a regional championship.

On Sunday November 5th our choir students, elementary through high school performed.  The event was well attended and our students did a great job.
