Wayne County Board of Education Regular Meeting
1. Call to Order
Discussion

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Benton Sloan. Also present was Superintendent, Brian Dishman and Board Counsel, John Blevins.

3. Recognition
Rationale

WCHS Cheerleaders

The WCHS Varsity Cheerleaders have 18 members and are coached by Yvonne Morgan and Dylan Godsey. The cheerleaders have had a successful season during the 2025-2026 KHSAA season. They have stayed busy this season cheering for High School football games, Boys and Girls basketball games, as well as competing in cheer competitions. In November, they competed at the KHSAA Cheer Region competition, in which they placed 5th in the All-Girls Medium division. 

 

The following weekend they competed at the UCA Bluegrass region competition and placed 1st in the Varsity Non-tumbling Intermediate division and secured a bid to UCA nationals. In January, the cheer team competed at the UCA High School Nationals in Orlando, Fl. At nationals, they competed in Large Varsity Non-tumbling Intermediate and placed 3rd in the semi-finals, then advanced to finals and placed 8th overall in the nation for their division.

Mr. Jared Criswell with Wayne County Education Associate/KEA recognized Mr. Justin Cole as the February Member and presented him with a certificate and a $100.00 check.


Mr. Dishman recognized the Wayne County High School Cheerleaders for their accomplishment this year. Members are as follows:


Haley Burchett, Makayla Catron, Gracelyn Cooke, Gracie Corder, Kaitlyn Guffey, Alyssia Hall, Hayleigh Howard, Braylee Hutchinson, Braylee Kidd, Graclee Mann, Alexis Padgett, Destiny Prince, Jordan Rains, Adalyn Salyers, Kennedi Sloan, Alyssa Sylvester, Olivia Tucker, Chloe Williams

4. Superintendent's Report and Instructional Issues

Discussion

Mr. Dishman updated the Board on the Walker Early Learning Center construction project with progress moving with painters and flooring contractors to be starting soon on that phase of the project. He also updated the Board on the Softball Project with Opening Bids to begin March 10, 2026.


Mr. Braxton Shearer, principal of Wayne County Middle School, presented an Instruction update to the Board on the Middle School. He shared the Goals and progress. 3 top areas being the following:


1. Strengthen Tier 1 Instruction


2. Increase Student Achievement


3.Strengthen School Culture
