Rationale

The Spencer County Board of Education, in parternship with and in service to our community, will support our school district in engaging student with challenging and meaningful work that will result in high levels of learning.

If anyone wishes to address the Board Chair in the meeting, s/he is asked to complete the form, "Request to Address the Board Chair," located on the meeting table and retun this form to the Board Chair

6. CITIZENS AND DELEGATIONS Members of the public may address the Board without submitting an item for the agenda. No action will be taken during this portion of the meeting unless deemed an emergency by the Board. KRS 160.270(2) requires a public comment of at least fifteen minutes. Board rules regarding conduct still apply during the public comment period. Each speaker is requested to limit their presentation to three (3) minutes or less. This time limit may be extended by the Board Chair. Please note: Speakers will not be allowed to make disparaging or critical remarks about individuals or employees of the District. Critical comments or complaints are processed through the District complaint procedures

8.B. KETS Offer of Assistance
Rationale

The Spencer County School District has received a KETS (technology) Offer of Assistance in the amount of $33,850 as shown in the attached letter. To accept the offer so that funds are available immediately, the Board must approve doing so and matching the full amount now. There will likely be at least one more KETS Offer later in the school year, but that one will not require Board approval

8.C. 21st Century Learning Grant - 2 Positions
Rationale

The high school’s 21st Century program only has a part-time data assistant, but a full-time position is in the budget for this grant. The workload now dictates that the position be made full-time. This increased staffing would be funded from the high school’s 21st Century grant.

 

The middle school’s 21st Century program has been very successful and now needs a 20-hour Site Coordinator position to assist with the management of the program from the budgetary side to the day-to-day operations. This position would be funded from the middle school’s two 21st Century grants.

8.D. School Based Mental Health (SBMH) Federal Grant
Rationale

Board approval is requested to apply for the School Based Mental Health (SBMH) Grant from the US Department of Education.  The grant will be for a maximum of $2,000,000 over five years to support recruitment and retention of Mental Health Professionals.  Support for the mental health of students increases their educational opportunities by creating conditions for them to be able to fully engage in learning.  Data previously shared with the Board has shown the need for continued support for our students’ mental health.  There is a required in-kind match of 25%.  Thanks for your consideration of this request.
