 pledges to support the mission of the NELSON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
 by setting visionary direction through effective policy, oversight
 and efficient resource management.

Superintendent Orr indicated that this month's agenda is short due to state testing scores not being available until November this year. He also stated that there was not any changes to the agenda.

Cox's Creek Elementary School to present to the Board a Readers Theater led by Dr. Lanham.

Dr. Lanham, principal of Cox's Creek Elementary introduced the Cox's Creek Elementary chorus led by music teacher,Ms. Melanie Cundiff. She explained that they would be singing the "Preamble" from the School House Rock. The students were . Chairperson, Damon Jackey asked the students what they have learned. Miss stated that she had learned why the Preamble had been written.

OCTOBER 2012

“GOOD NEWS”

The students auditioned for and were selected to participate in the All-State Choir.  There were over 600 that auditioned for the 190 voice choir.  At All-State in November the students will all rehearse all day Friday, and Saturday morning and participate in a concert Saturday afternoon.

The Nelson County School's AFJROTC unit earned an overall Unit Evaluation Exceeds Standard…the highest rating attainable! There were no discrepancies noted during the Unit Evaluation. The instructors are highly dedicated, and create a dynamic and supportive learning environment in and out of the classroom. The cadets displayed exemplary pride, and their extensive participation in numerous school and community service projects is particularly impressive.  Congratulations to the instructor team, and the Cadet Corps.

ISSUE:     Change Order #33-TNHS PH 2, Hand dryers were not included in phase 2 documents. By owners request hand dryers were added to phase 2 at a cost of $3,380.00 to US Specialties.

Motion Passed:  Motion to approve change order #33 for Thomas Nelson High School passed with a motion by Mr. Adam Wheatley and a second by Mr. Frank Hall.

Chairperson Damon Jackey asked Mr. Todd Sanders if the board will see a flux of payouts soon since all projects are completed? Mr. Sanders responded that they should trickle in over the next few months.

The following vendor has completed all contractual obligations for the bid packages listed and have applied for final payment. All work has been inspected by architects, construction manager, and owners and found acceptable.

BP#12 Misc. Specialties, Schiller Hardware              $1,406.00

Motion Passed:  Motion to approve the final payment for the vendor, Schiller Hardware passed with a motion by Mr. Nicky Rapier and a second by Mr. Larry Pate.

This agenda item was revoted on due to an error that showed the wrong vendor and amount. The second vote shows correct vendor and amount.

Motion Passed:  Motion to approve the revised final payment for the vendor, Landmark Sprinkler passed with a motion by Mr. Larry Pate and a second by Mr. Nicky Rapier.

The BG 1 had to be revised due to amount had been listed at the state level as a credit not a deduction.

The following vendor has completed all contractual obligations for the bid packages listed and have applied for final payment. All work has been inspected by architects, construction manager, and owners and found acceptable.

Motion Passed:  Motion to approve the final payment for the vendor, Schiller Hardware passed with a motion by Mr. Nicky Rapier and a second by Mr. Larry Pate.

           BP#24 Concrete/Carpentry, M&J Construction-$139.50

Motion Passed:  Motion to approve the final payment for the vendor, M&J Construction passed with a motion by Mr. Nicky Rapier and a second by Mr. Frank Hall.

              BP#33 Misc. Specialties, US Specialties-$28,978.00

Motion Passed:  Motion to approve the final payment for the vendor, US Specialties passed with a motion by Mr. Nicky Rapier and a second by Mr. Adam Wheatley.

2nd Reading

Policy 05.1 change to allow “a reference to a prominent location or deceased person who has contributed to local or national history and/or culture” as a factor that could be used in naming new schools, facilities and properties.

Motion Passed:  Motion to approve 2nd Reading of Policy 05.1 passed with a motion by Mr. Adam Wheatley and a second by Mr. Larry Pate.
