Rationale

Student with medical statement requires a shortened school day with a specially designed plan to gradually return to a full school day. 

·         The Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) has determined it necessary to modify the Individual Education Program (IEP) and the school day for a middle school student identified with a disability.

·         All proper documentation has been received and will be forwarded to the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) as required by the Nelson County Special Education Procedures.

Existing sewer and gas lines were found to be in conflict with new storm lines.  Claunch Construction provided labor and equipment to determine a solution to the problem for a cost of $300.

VII.B.3. Change Order #9: TNHS, Phase II

Rationale

It was discovered that after the bar joists were installed weak areas existed in areas of the decking adjacent to the front entrance.  In order to support and strengthen the decking, metal braces were welded between bar joists.   TWF, Inc. will provide all labor and materials for a cost of $2950.00.

VII.B.4. Change Order # 2: NCELC Preschool

Certain classroom ceilings are sloped by design.  The HVAC units specified must be installed level.   A sheet metal covering is now required to cover units.  R&R Inc. will provide all labor and materials to house the four units in question for a cost of $932.

VII.B.5. Change Order # 3: NCELC Preschool

Rationale

Two issues are involved with Change Order #3.  A credit of $1,594 was realized from Cundiff Steel when structural steel for the canopy was incorrectly included in the original bid.  However, existing footers were deeper than indicated by building, “as builts”.  In 16 locations steel columns were lengthened to accommodate footer conditions resulting in an additional $205 cost.  When subtracting the add from original credit, a final credit from Cundiff Steel of $1,389 was realized.

VII.B.6. Change Order # 4: NCELC Preschool

After site review of the existing sanitary lines for the Early Childhood Learning Center, it was determined that there was a more efficient way to tie into that line.  A credit of $1,262 from R&R Inc. was realized.

VII.H. TNHS Opening Configuration

The original Thomas Nelson High School Redistricting Committee met on May 9, 2011 and wish to recommend that Thomas Nelson High School open in the Fall of 2012 with all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students attending that are zoned for that area.

 

They also recommend that students that will be Seniors and are zoned for TNHS be surveyed giving an option of attending NCHS or TNHS before finalizing any decisions about their attendance.

VII.I. NCELC Preschool Opening Schedule

It is anticipated that the new Pre-school Center will be ready for students near the beginning of the school year.   It is recommended that all pre-school students enroll in the new center upon completion of the interior of the buildings.

VII.K. School Calendar

An amended school calendar must be submitted to the Kentucky department of Education, after Board approval, before June 30.  On May 3, 2011, school was cancelled due to flood water.  That day must now be designated as a non-school day on our calendar.  However, with the implementation of Banked Time, that missed day will not have to be added to the school calendar.  This was verified through the Kentucky Department of Education.

VIII.A. Grading Scale Policy - 1st Reading

The Nelson County Schools’ Board of Education Policy: 08.221

“Grading” currently states that the following grade scale shall be used in Grades five (5) through twelve (12): A 94-100, B 86-93, C 78-85, D 70-77, F 0-69.  

 

The proposed revised policy states that the following grade scale shall be used in Grades four (4) through twelve (12): A 90-100, B 80-89, C 70-79, D 69-60, F 0-60.  It is recommended to add the fourth grade for the grading scale and to change the grading scale to a ten point grading scale.
