Good News – May
Boston’s middle school band competed in March in the 4th District performance assessment and received a proficient rating.
Grant Amshoff, a 5th Grader at Boston is the school winner of the Optimist Club Outstanding Student award.
Nelson County High junior Heather Decker, who won 1st place in the Congressional Art contest. Her work will be on display in the Capital Building in Washington D.C for a the next year.
NCHS Jennifer Jackey, Cody Unseld, Heather Decker & Jake Price were all winners in the Fine Arts of Bardstown competition.
Nelson County High Senior, Jamie Cahoe was selected to be a Junior Counselor at American Legion Girls State 2014...she was the first NCHS student sponsored for Girls State in 2013.
Emily Hines was selected as the Optimist Club outstanding student for New Haven and she will be honored at a banquet on Monday May 12, 2014.
OKHMS congratulates Marly Walls as a recipient of the KY Middle School Association’s Scholarship recognizing eighth grade students who have shown academic excellence, outstanding citizenship, a commendable attitude, leadership, and college and career readiness appropriate to middle level students.
Thomas Nelson High School student Danielle McDonnell has been awarded the 2014 Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection Environmental Art (Eco-Art) Award for “excellence in the category of Pollution Prevention, Painting/Drawing.” The winning picture will be on display for an entire year in the Department’s Frankfort training center.
Thomas Nelson freshman Nada Kaissieh was recognized by the National Center for Women and Information Technology for her Aspirations in Computing application. She will now pursue a grant to run a technology program with younger girls in our community. Nada also received 1st place in the state for Geek Squad Ready at the STLP State Championship.
Thomas Nelson senior Taylor Lamkin received 1st place in the state in the highly entered area of Original Photo at the STLP State Championship for her photo, "Reflection".
Thomas Nelson High School Band received a Proficient rating at the District Performance Assessment.
Kendol Link, Molly Skinner, Abby Skinner, Marissa Keith, Eli Hall all received Distinguished ratings at the Districts Solo and Ensemble Performance Assessment.
Eli Hall, Ciara Sandefur, Shyla Stump, and Marissa Keith were offered full scholarships to Eastern Kentucky University's Stephen Foster Music Camp.

The required local-state board public hearing was held on May 13, 2014 at which time there was no one in attendance wishing to comment. It is recommnended the Board give final approval so it can be submitted to the Kentucky Board of Education for approval.

REPORTS TO: Director of Instruction/Principal(s)
JOB GOAL: Instructional Coaches will facilitate change in instructional practices of teachers that will enable teachers to diagnose student needs more analytically; plan more productively; and teach more effectively.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership for teachers by planning, collaborating, organizing, mentoring and facilitating change to improve the instructional program.
Disaggregates and analyzes data and assists principals and teachers in its interpretation to measure and improve student achievement and/or program effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree with five years of teaching experience and knowledge of the community and experience in collaborating with a variety of community partners.
REPORTS TO: Directors of Schools
JOB GOALS: Assist district and school officials with developing and implementing an aligned K-12 college and career counseling program through dual credit and early graduation (ILPA) and with the career readiness through oversight of district work experience programs; training on career readiness assessments; ILP monitoring.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with guidance counselors and Nelson County Area Technology Center (ATC) throughout the district to develop and implement a K-12 aligned college and career readiness counseling program.
Facilitate and manage Nelson County’s year-long implementation approach to Kentucky’s Operation Preparation program.
Assists the District Assessment Coordinator with the submission of student assessment analyses to the principal and superintendent in order to report progress toward college and career readiness measures.
Contacts and recruits area employers for the purpose of securing commitments of part-time, summer, and full-time jobs for students and maintains an active file of job availabilities. Communicates opportunities to students and parents.
Serves as a liaison with employers and colleges.
Maintains a follow-up system for at least one year for the purpose of data monitoring of success.
Mentors and assists students with preparation activities for job placement.
Collaborates with community-based organizations and ATC to complement, supplement, deepen, and enhance the district’s college and career education programs.
Assists schools and ATC in their efforts to offer an array of courses that reflect a range of skills and knowledge levels as well as reflecting a wide range of college and career opportunities within the school of study.

The Junior Systems Administrator will be required to maintain/support all district applications and computer based assessments and will serve as a backup for network/phone system support when necessary.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSILIBITIES INCLUDE, BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Maintains Active Directory user accounts for Staff and Students
Ensures server backups are running properly
Provides ongoing maintenance/support/upgrades of desktop and server operating systems

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
JOB GOALS: Support/Maintain the existing IT infrastructure for Nelson County Schools. The Network Engineer will be responsible for the management/deployment of the network infrastructure, and will serve as a backup for server infrastructure support when necessary.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSILIBITIES INCLUDE, BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Installs/supports/upgrades for district switches, routers, phone equipment and other related network gear
Troubleshoots all network connectivity issues. This includes LAN, WAN and all data/voice circuits
Maintains documentation on all network infrastructure including circuit ID’s and support contacts
Opens tickets with appropriate carriers to resolve connectivity issues
Configures and maintains regular backups for all networking equipment including district phone system

JOB GOALS: Assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups in programs with children with severe disabilities or equivalent programs; monitor and report student progress.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tutors individuals or small groups of students typically with a disability or handicap, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by the teacher; maintains records of student progress.
Participates as member of an instructional team including redemption teams; develops appropriate relationships with parents and team members; serves as a resource person to the student personnel evaluation team.
Transports students to and from activities and assists in preparation for treatment as required.
Prepares and organizes lessons as directed by the teacher; administers, scores and records a variety of tests according to established guidelines; assists in determining English proficiency of identified students.
Assists in administering diagnostic and other tests; reads, understands and assists in implementing, recording and monitoring student's IEP.

Bornlearning Academy - FRYSC Grant Application

Boston School, together with The Village Family Resource Youth Service Center (FRYSC) which serves Boston and New Haven Schools, and Foster Heights Elementary School, wish to apply for a “Toyota Bornlearning Academy” grant in the amount of $3,000 for each school. This grant application is to support a structured workshop series designed to provide guidance for parents, caregivers and communities to create quality early learning opportunities for young children. United Way of Kentucky, Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence and Toyota of Kentucky are all heavily involved with this project. Boston School, along with NC Early Learning Center has already been the recipient of this grant in 2012. Each academy consists of six monthly workshops. Grant funding in the amount of $6,000 has been set aside for 10 schools in 10 Kentucky school districts to deliver the curriculum for these workshops. The program is designed to engage parents and teach them about their child’s development. No matching funds are required.
