Octoberfest and Hunters Moon
The district's participation in both the Hunter's Moon Festival and the Octoberfest were good for the community. There is special recognition for the school system's involvement with Octoberfest. There have been multiple compliments and comments ranging from the schools' floats in the parade to the sponsorship of the FBLA that motivated the local businesses to decorate the town. Ashley Rupckey played a significant role with her efforts to coordinate the vendors and follow up with nearly every detail of the planning; she did a wonderful job and represented the school system with pride. The high school's staff, sponsors, and students were also an integral part of the success of this year's Octoberfest.

Due to the accident that resulted in one of the buses being totaled, we need to replace that bus in our fleet. Insurance is covering $86,585.00. A new bus will cost about $93,000.
The budget includes the yearly purchase of two new buses in an effort to maintain our fleet. Two buses have already been purchased for this year.
Board approval is required before new buses can be ordered and purchased. The approval of three buses is being requested. One of the buses will replace the vehicle that has been totaled in the accident. The approval of the other two buses will allow us to move forward with a requisition for the buses that will be invoiced in next year's budget, fiscal year 2021. With advance approval the buses can be ordered in time for them to arrive in the summer of 2020.

The 2019 legislative session resulted in the passing of Senate Bill 1. This legislation will slightly affect our staffing allocation procedures and formulas. KRS 158.4416(3)(a) states that a school should employ at least one school counselor for every 250 students. Our current staffing procedure has a ratio of 1:500; the recommended staffing procedure includes a ratio of 1:250. In order to prevent this from adding further financial burdens on the district, it is recommended that the "additional allocation" be reduced to balance the overall impact of the increased counseling allocation
