6. Options For Classified Staff During Patriot Days
Rationale

 Principals will require classified members to document responsibilities carried out on non-traditional instructional days. Responsibilities of classified staff on NTI days include the following:
Instructional Assistants Bus Drivers & Food Service Employees  All Other Classified Personnel 

May work in collaboration with their supervising teachers during NTI days by providing support to teachers and/or students, completing assigned tasks, assisting with grading and record keeping, etc.

If they are unable to work on the actual NTI days, their immediate supervisor will work with them to reschedule contract time to be made up.

Shall work with immediate supervisor to plan for making up up hours missed.

Bus Drivers - Hours may be made up by participating in additional training, and other activities as deemed appropriate by the director of transportation.

Food Service - Hours may be made up for extra cleaning, working summer feeding program, additional training, other activities as deemed appropriate by the director of food service.

Without jeopardizing personal safety and with the permission of immediate supervisor may work a normal schedule in their assigned building.

 Food service staff will be paid fro their contractual days, whether they actually work on NTI days or make up the contract days at the end of the school year. The staffing cost for these days will be covered by the indirect costs that the district collects from the food service program (i.e. the district plans to implement opt to 5 NTI days during the 2016-2017 school year. Food service salary and fringe cost are approximately $5,000 per day. Five days would cost approximately $25,000 and this would be paid out of the indirect costs that the district collects from the food service program.

 

 

7. Options For Certified Staff During Patriot Days
Rationale

Principals will require teachers and other staff members to document responsibilities carried out on non-traditional instruction days.  Responsibilities of certified staff on NTI days include the following:

Without jeopardizing personal safety and with the permission of immediate supervisor, principals and assistant principals may work normal hours in their assigned building.

 

Support and monitor online classrooms and packet-based instruction by checking content being delivered and progress of students.

 

Be available to answer questions from teachers, parents, staff members, students and community members.

 

Approve classified staff members to work at the building during NTI days.

 

Work with individuals to develop an individualized, alternate plan if staff availability or role does not readily fit into the duties outlined in this plan (i.e. Not able to maintain an online presence at home, etc.).

Teachers and other certified staff shall maintain an online presence and be readily available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

 

Teachers will monitor and support student participation in digital content and paper-based activities through two-way communication, collaboration, questions and/or tutoring via online platforms, email and/or telephone.

 

Teachers will ensure that all content necessary for students is readily available online and up-to-date packet information is available for download or for pick-up at the school or Central Office for pick-up.

Some employees may be short concerning maternity leave days. This means employees will be docked pay along with any associated insurance/tax amounts from paychecks. This can place a financial strain on a household.
