Rationale

Comparison of our insurance options for the 2026-27 fiscal year. This evaluated a Liberty Mutual renewal against a proposal from Obsidian Insurance Group, both presented to us by our Agent of Record, Houchens.

Noticeable Differences

  • Cost Savings: Obsidian is $41,673.86 cheaper overall, with an all-in total of $619,633.14 (including taxes and fees) compared to Liberty Mutual’s $661,307.00.

  • Property Protection: Obsidian doubles our Earthquake and Flood limits to $10,000,000 each (compared to Liberty's $5M and $1M limits).

  • Drastically Lower Deductibles: Obsidian significantly reduces the district's financial exposure during a claim:

    • Wind: Drops from $100,000 to $10,000.

    • Hail: Drops from $100,000 to $25,000.

    • Water Damage: Drops from $50,000 to $10,000.

  • Higher Liability Protection: Obsidian replaces the $3,000,000 Liberty Umbrella with a $5,000,000 Excess Liability policy featuring a $0 deductible.
