Community Forum
Ann Meyer
Several parents and community members addressed the Board with their comments about removing the mask requirement, restroom policy, HHS open house, special COVID funding (ESSER) expenditures, and the COVID-related decline in academic performance.
One parent thanked the Board for keeping the mask requirement in place.
FTEA president Kelly Pratt-Booth addressed the Board to share information about our teachers from across the district who were recognized by the FTEA and their peers for the outstanding work they continually do. The teachers recognized were
Woodfill Elementary - Donna Hicks and Kelly Smith who have organized a fundraiser in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and coordinated a bulletin board recognizing loved ones that have battled cancer, coordinated Halloween costumes amongst the faculty and staff and organized new sweatshirts to celebrate Woodfill's pride and school spirit. These two amazing women have set an example for our students on how to engage in service learning and build community. Their work has created a joyful environment for our students to learn and grow in.
Highlands Middle - Ryan Augustin who has been very busy coordinating service-learning opportunities for our students at the middle school. He has worked over the past weeks to coordinate activities for student council, Red Ribbon Week, AND Veterans' Day. He organized a competition to help with a canned food drive, spearheaded door decorating for Red Ribbon Week, and worked with students to create cards and posters for our veterans. His work has created countless opportunities to teach our students what it means to be a citizen of our great nation.
Highlands High Jean Becker who every day stays after school to help students. She has dedicated herself to not only making the students better at understanding science, but also dedicated to making herself a better teacher. Along with being there for students, she's also there for her colleagues. When a fellow teacher is out sick, Ms. Becker is there to make sure the subs had everything they needed to keep students learning.
