QPR - Rough River Dam State Park, October 3, 2013
The Kentucky Center for School Safety has partnered with the Kentucky Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and the Kentucky Suicide Prevention Group to provide QPR training that is being implemented as a state model for suicide prevention. QPR is an acronym for Question, Persuade, & Refer. This model teaches persons to recognize the risk factors, protective factors, and warning signs associated with depression, suicidal ideation and suicidal behavior. The goal is for QPR to be as commonly taught as CPR, which is supported by the goal of having one person in every family trained in QPR. The model can be modified for usage in the appropriate audience such as public schools, government, colleges and universities, civic groups, churches, etc.
